Two week hiatus

Hello lovely blog readers,

I am on vacation for the next two weeks and don't really have access to the internet, so I won't be posting anything for a while. I will resume the usual reviews and memes in a few weeks!

I have some exciting things lined up for the next few months, so stay tuned :)

This week's theme: Historical Settings I want to see This theme is great because it goes hand-in-hand with my discussion post about how annoyed I was with the huge number of fantasy novels set in medieval worlds. I would love to see technology and magic go hand in hand. Who says technology and magic can't coexist? 1. Ancient Egypt. Hands down my favorite historical period growing up. I think it helped that my first chapter book ever was the Magic Tree House book where they went to Ancient Egypt (Mummies in the Morning, anyone?) 2. Renaissance Italy. There are so many things to love about the Gentleman Bastards series, but one of my favorites is how magic is woven into a Renaissance-era Italy-inspired world. We've seen a little bit about the differences in what members of different genders are allowed and encouraged to do. I thought it was interesting how things like reading were entrusted only to women, since reading is how you gain knowledge (and power!), and it seems like the men were the ones who wanted all the power in this world. So here's a discussion post about the different gender roles and what some possible implications are. 2015 goals and Sci-fi/Fantasy bingo challenge!

Happy New Year! I can't believe it's 2015 already. Every year seems to go by so fast! My goals for this year: DiverSFFy posts once a month - This is a feature I started last year, but it was so sporadic that I feel like I hardly spotlighted any diverse science fiction and fantasy at all. I'm planning to fix this by posting one feature each month. Monthly summary posts - I've seen a lot of other blogs do monthly recaps, and I think it's a great idea to see what people have been up to. I've been too lazy to do them myself, but hopefully this year changes that Read 100 books! - I've hit just over 100 books during the past two years, so I'd like to keep up that many books for this year Be much better about commenting on other blogs - I loved this summer because I had a lot of time to check out other blogs and leave comments.
