Construction updates

I've been trying out all sorts of things with my blog redesign project - downloading backgrounds from other websites, meddling with my HTML, trying to make my own backgrounds and headers...
this is a lot more work than I thought, and I have yet to come up with a cohesive design that I am happy with.

Here are the some designs I have tried out for my blog.:

I like the simplicity of this one, and although the header doesn't totally fit the theme of my blog, at least it's clean. One thing I used in both designs is the little snowflakes in the sidebar. You can see them better in the next screenshot.

I tried to make my own background here, and I'm having issues with the alignment and sizing. I need to make a header to go along with this, so this design isn't final. I do like that the way the sidebar is individual boxes though. I tried copying the widget CSS from this template to the one above, and blogger was not too happy about that!


and finally, the current design. I'm really happy with the way this one turned out:

    This looks great! I love the new design! If you want to try and do drop down headers similar to what I have on my blog now, Ashley over at Nosegraze has a super helpful tutorial!

    I like this design a lot and I also liked design #2! I'm impressed that you've been able to do all this yourself! I've been fiddling with my template as well. When I originally got my template, I liked it, but wasn't sure how well it fit with the theme of my blog. I wasn't sure if I would keep it. But I've gotten SO many compliments on it that I just can't bring myself to get rid of

The Supremely Fabulous Fantasy Subgenre Flowchart

Way back during Sci-Fi November , I made a flowchart of Science fiction subgenres so that everyone could find the sub-genre that they liked the most. The idea was that people could find recommendations in genres they didn't normally read, and maybe find a new favorite series or subgenre. It was way more popular than I imagined it would be, and a lot of you readers asked for a fantasy flowchart . Well, 6 months later, here it is! Again, some subgenres I made up and some are standard. I have read/watched most of these, but there are a few I haven't because I'm not familiar with every subgenre of fantasy. If you would like more suggestions in any of these genres, feel free to ask! Way of Kings Readalong: Wrap-up

So it's finally over. That was an amazing book! Thank you everyone for joining in and making my first readalong so much fun :) I have said over and over again that Brandon Sanderson is a storytelling god. This book makes me believe it even more fiercely - it takes a mastermind to create such intricate worlds and piece together so many character and plot threads. He does such a great job of feeding you just enough answers/revelations to keep you happy, but keeps you hanging by dangling all sorts of questions for you to answer. Not to mention the bombshells he throws in at the end... Having read Mistborn, I really should have been more prepared for disaster and mindblowing moments towards the end of the book. The end was just bombshell after bombshell - some were interesting revelations, and others were shattering.
