Top Ten Tuesday is a meme hosted by The Broke and the Bookish.
This week's theme:  Book Cover Trends I Like/Dislike

I honestly can't think of 10 different trends, so here are a few that I've noticed.

1. I've been noticing a lot of red and black making an appearance on covers lately. I kind of like it - it hints at the darker elements of the stories without making it too freaky or dark.

2. I also really like the trend of water on book covers.

3. I love the 2D/silhouette look of these covers:

4. I think it's really cool how these covers have faces but with a twist. Either the face is part of something else, or it's the illusion of a face made up of other things...

We've seen a little bit about the differences in what members of different genders are allowed and encouraged to do. I thought it was interesting how things like reading were entrusted only to women, since reading is how you gain knowledge (and power!), and it seems like the men were the ones who wanted all the power in this world. Way of Kings Readalong: Wrap-up

So it's finally over. That was an amazing book! Thank you everyone for joining in and making my first readalong so much fun :) I have said over and over again that Brandon Sanderson is a storytelling god. This book makes me believe it even more fiercely - it takes a mastermind to create such intricate worlds and piece together so many character and plot threads. He does such a great job of feeding you just enough answers/revelations to keep you happy, but keeps you hanging by dangling all sorts of questions for you to answer. Not to mention the bombshells he throws in at the end... Having read Mistborn, I really should have been more prepared for disaster and mindblowing moments towards the end of the book. The end was just bombshell after bombshell - some were interesting revelations, and others were shattering. Way of Kings concept art and fan art!

Sanderson always puts so much detail into the worlds and characters he writes about, so it's so easy to imagine them all in my head. I was curious about if other people imagined them the same way, and I started poking around on google imags/deviantart/tumblr. Look at the fantastic pieces of art I found! Cover artist Michael Whelan's concept art of different characters (see more art on his website, http://www.michaelwhelan.com/stormlight-archive-original-art/) Kaladin Stormblessed Szeth, the assassin in white Shallan, drawing as usual Fan art This cartoon is adorable!
