Sci-Fi month 2014 IS HERE!

It's finally November, and that means Sci-fi month is here! For those of you who are new to the party, Sci-fi month is where a bunch of blogs post about different things related to science fiction. This can be anything from favorite books to quizzes to sci-fi reviews to discussions about technology that used to be fiction and is now fact. Some blogs are also doing giveaways, so look out for that! Whether you're new to science fiction or already a die-hard fan, this month is going to be a lot of fun.

So what can you expect from Snowflakes & Spider silk?

We've seen a little bit about the differences in what members of different genders are allowed and encouraged to do. I thought it was interesting how things like reading were entrusted only to women, since reading is how you gain knowledge (and power!), and it seems like the men were the ones who wanted all the power in this world. So here's a discussion post about the different gender roles and what some possible implications are. Way of Kings Readalong: Wrap-up

So it's finally over. That was an amazing book! Thank you everyone for joining in and making my first readalong so much fun :) I have said over and over again that Brandon Sanderson is a storytelling god. This book makes me believe it even more fiercely - it takes a mastermind to create such intricate worlds and piece together so many character and plot threads. He does such a great job of feeding you just enough answers/revelations to keep you happy, but keeps you hanging by dangling all sorts of questions for you to answer. Not to mention the bombshells he throws in at the end... Having read Mistborn, I really should have been more prepared for disaster and mindblowing moments towards the end of the book. The end was just bombshell after bombshell - some were interesting revelations, and others were shattering. Way of Kings concept art and fan art!

Sanderson always puts so much detail into the worlds and characters he writes about, so it's so easy to imagine them all in my head. I was curious about if other people imagined them the same way, and I started poking around on google imags/deviantart/tumblr. Look at the fantastic pieces of art I found! Cover artist Michael Whelan's concept art of different characters (see more art on his website, http://www.michaelwhelan.com/stormlight-archive-original-art/) Kaladin Stormblessed Szeth, the assassin in white Shallan, drawing as usual Fan art This cartoon is adorable! I don't know who Navani is though (maybe she'll appear soon?) Botanicaxu from DeviantArt came up with this sketch. She has lots of other Stormlight art as well!
